Once again, the Findswoman is proud to present yet another completely fanfictional character you’ve never heard of. Trynfor the Mad is a Gand Findsman of the days of yore, celebrated in song, story, and art by all of Gand. He is older and wiser than Zuckuss or Ooryl, but still in good fighting form.
Trynfor’s head is a Sculpey cast of POTF2 Zuckuss’s head (my first semi-successful head cast ever!), done in a Sculpey
push mold. I added some lines with a thin sharp potter’s tool. Then, after the necessary 20 minutes curing in the oven, I painted it a mixture of various browns and the eyes gold.
His body is that of Episode I Darth Maul (Tatooine), with
the plastic cape removed (of course) and with the skirt cut off. You can’t see it here, but I have replaced the skirt with one made of thin black leather. You can’t see them, but the plates of armor on his legs shoulders are made out of Sculpey and painted a metallic steel color (Testors); likewise the rosette at his neck. If you look very hard at his hands, you will see that he actually does have three fingers on each, as the Gand are supposed to. (Thank Heaven for Dremel tools and X-Acto knives!) In addition to the fact that it’s conveniently already black, I figured the Maul body -- being a good bit larger than the Zuckuss body, the only Gand body there is right now -- was particularly appropriate;
since Trynfor is a figure (no pun intended) of fame and legend, it makes good sense for him to be “larger than life.”
As if all that sculpting and casting and cutting and painting weren’t enough, I had to make him the traditional Findsman’s robes too. I had originally stitched one in very thin, flexible black leather, using A. Nonymous’s very own pattern for a generic action figure robe (which can be found on his TIPS
page), but it’s starting to come apart, so I gave him the cloak from the Episode I Sith Accessory Set instead, which was pretty much made to be put on the Darth Maul body anyway. The belt is made of the thin black leather, and the fringe I got by unravelling some kind black decorative trim that I got on the same trip to the fabric store and supergluing it to the ends of the belt. It gives a sort of ginchy, Old World touch.
Trynfor is pictured above holding Zuckuss’s snare rifle and “swimming
with the Opee” Qui-Gon Jinn’s spear, with which I fell absolutely in love at first sight after seeing a picture fellow collector Tyler “Reeyees-Tessek” Ross sent me of figures he had for sale. It seemed like a perfect accessory for Trynfor.
This photo dates from when Trynfor was wearing the black leather cloak I originally sewed for him, but I liked it so much I decided not to take it down, even when the figure got updated. The recipient of Trynfor’s comforting support is Telfien Viuraanvi (second version here), another one of my fanfictional Gands and my first ever custom action figure.
