I dedicate this custom to fellow customizer CorranHorn, moderator of the FFURG FForums and customizer extraordinaire. “Help!” I cried one evening in the FFURG chatroom. “I have this extra POTJ BoShek kicking around! What can I do with him? Quick!” So, with his usual levelheadedness and poise, Corran suggested that I make the character who has become known variously as the Cantina Dude, the Cantina Guy, and the Cantina Patron -- one of the most background of the background characters in the Mos Eisley Cantina, and a favorite of customizers everywhere.
Most Cantina Dude customs that I’ve seen use Bossk for the body, since Bossk and the Dude wear the same yellow spacesuit. (Probably the same actual costume, too.) Erik Schroeder’s version is a handsome example. BoShek’s spacesuit, however, though identical in style, is black. So, my first task was to repaint the BoShek body. That was not always an easy proposition with all the li’l straps and such on the suit that have to be kept white or silver. In all it took a coat of white primer (Testors Model Master) and about two or three coats of Gunze Sangyo glossy yellow -- a loud, bold Blue Angels-type yellow that is far more obnoxious than that of the Bossk suit, but it’s what I had, so there. After these coats of paint dried, I went over the white and silver details and the boots.
Another difference between BoShek and the Dude is that BoShek, unlike the Dude, has bare, ungloved hands. I cut off BoShek’s hands about 1/3” up the arm and replaced them with some black gloves on hand from an AT-ST Driver.
Finally, since BoShek has such a wonderful generic Human male head that I wanted to keep as custom fodder, I replaced BoShek’s head with another head (someday, when I’m ready, I’ll show everyone), put on the helmet, and voilà! He’s done!
Actually, he’s not done yet -- we must give him some accessories. First, a gun -- any gun will do. This particular gun was from POTF2 Grand Moff Tarkin, but has been seen on a number of other figures as well. Then, a drink -- in this case, a nice little Playmobil wine goblet. Cheers!
