According to her Expanded Universe backstory, the infamous bounty huntress and Jedi-hater Aurra Sing was once a Jedi apprentice herself, and turned her back on the order when she was just a child. Most Jedi Aurra customs out there, however, make her look too old, so I decided to do a custom figure interpretation of what she might have looked like as a child studying under the Dark Woman. (This was before I saw the reference picture to the right -- yes, I know it doesn’t match at all!)
Strangely enough, all the parts I used for this custom come from male figures. Her body came from Episode I Anakin Skywalker (Jedi Padawan), with a touch of repainting. Her head comes from Saga Boba Fett (the child) with a bit of extra hair added with Sculpey and some repainting to give her the right hair and skin colors. I figured that her signature bald-plus-ponytail look would come later, after she’d been “wild” for a while. Finally, I equipped her with a blue lightsaber I had lying around. (Blue crystals are the lightest and thus best for padawans).
“What’s that thing she’s holding that looks like a sausage?” you might wonder. That is a piece of braid from one of the Princess Leia Collection Leia figures; it’s supposed to be her Jedi padawan braid, which she has just cut off her head (probably with the lightsaber) to show that she’s no longer part of the Jedi order.
This custom is dedicated to Michonne Bourriague, the lady who brought Aurra Sing to life in Episode I, whom I had the good fortune to meet briefly at Star Wars Celebration II in Indianapolis in May 2002.
