12” Naboo Handmaiden

(Gold Theed Throne Room Gown)

Here is the 12” counterpart to the 4” Naboo Royal Handmaiden (Gold Theed Throne Room Gown). No saffron dye this time, though.

This was a totally impulsive custom. As soon as I saw the Princess of Ancient Greece Barbie doll at Target, I thought: “She’s wearing the perfect dress for the gold handmaiden gown!” and grabbed her at once. I stitched an outer coat, obi, and veil in a gold satin-like fabric that looked like it matched the Barbie dress fairly well.

For a long time, I kept the outfit on the Greek Princess doll, but I always felt that she looked a little too old to be a handmaiden. (The handmaidens are supposed to be about the same age as the Queen, and Queen Amidala is only fourteen in Episode I.) The dress is now on a Hidden Majesty Amidala doll with her face repainted, which is closer to the proper look. But the Greek Princess was beautiful in the outfit, too, so I have included a couple of pictures of her as well directly below.
